Our Story

Podcast hosts

Theology Lockdown Podcast has a rich history and it doesn't start at the podcast. Around 2014 volunteer Ben Winters and inmate Jacob Watson discussed the possibility of creating an in-depth bible study for men in prison. The study was created with the goal of glorifying the Creator, instilling deeper relationships with God and one another, and wrestling with deep historical and theological truths; we called it Theology Throw Down.

Over the years and in the sharing of raw and emotional inmate and volunteer stories, the idea of a podcast was formed. Through conversations with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Ben was able to have a podcast approved and birthed Theology Lockdown Podcast.

The mission is simple and yet deep. Theology Lockdown Podcast is a series of very raw and honest, theological conversations with incarcerated men who boldly engage the doctrines of the Christian faith and explore how those truths apply within the unique challenges of prison life. Recorded inside a prison, the show moves beyond surface-level stories to wrestle seriously with Scripture, doctrine, repentance, suffering, and the realities of following Christ behind bars. At its heart, the podcast serves to highlight the inherent humanity and spiritual growth of those behind bars. By centering on “living out doctrine and redemption,” we aim to set a new standard for how society views and engages with the incarcerated church. Each conversation works to tear down the invisible walls between the body of believers behind the fences and the body of believers outside of prison wall, highlighting that we are one church, one body, with one Savior who came and gave His life for us all.

Today, our podcast is heard around the nation because of the generous support of you, various churches, and the team involved in its creation. Without the work of our podcast team's men and women who believe in our goals, we would not be on the air today. Theology Lockdown stands as a testament to the redeeming power of Jesus the Christ and His life-altering work on the cross.
